Hi, we are a group of 8th graders that are informing you all about the presidential campaign.  From the Candidates, to the poll results,  you will get it all.

Top Democratic Candidates

Hilary Clinton:

Hilary is Pro-choice, which i think is good, and she voted to give 100 million dollars towards preventing teenage pregnancy. I think that stopping global warming is important, and so does Hilary.  She wants to reduce greenhouse gases and invest in renewable energy. Clinton wants to tighten border security, and opposes the war in Iraq.  Finally she wants to make taxes more fair(cutting some middle class taxes and raising taxes for the rich)

Barack Obama:

"You're the wave, and I'm Riding it." says Sen.Obama would entrust a woman to decide for herself if she wants to get an abrotion or not. Barack wants to raise fuel efficiancy for cars, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Barack wants to welcome the immigrants with open arms, but for a price.  They have to pay a fee, and learn english, only then, can they earn citizenship. Obama wants to make a timeline with set dates for the withdrawel of the US troops, and was opposed to the War on Terror from the start. Obama would let expire tax cuts for households earning more than $250,000.

John Edwards:

Edwards supports partial-birth abortion, and says he would expand funding for family-planning. He also wants to reduce greenhouse gases by 80% by 2050! Edwards wants to let the illegal immigrants who have been in the US for many years to stay, but is going to crack down on employers that hire illigal immigrants. Edwards wants an immediate withdrawel of 40,000-50,000 troops, and he wants all of them to come back within 12-18 months. Edwards wants to repeal taxcuts for households earning more than $200,000 which would help pay for a universal health plan.

Top Republican Candidates:

John McCain:

John McCain thinks that abortion laws should be up to states to legislate but personally thinks it is a human tragedy and wants to promote alternitives  to abortion.  McCain is the cheif co-sponsor of a bill for greenhouse emissions and wants to see emissions return to the 2004 levels by 2012 and to 1990 levels by 2020. He also wants to see more use of alternative- energy sources. John McCain wants a comprehensive immigration reform bill that will make border security better. In 2006 he sponsored a comprehensive immigration reform bill. If it had passed it would have let some illegal immigrants already in the U.S. to work and apply to become legal residents after doing a number of things to be fair. McCain think's that President Bush's strategy in Iraq can succeed but if the U.S. doesn't "stabalize" Iraq now, then the threat of terrorism against America will grow. He also says that tax cuts work best in conjunction with lower spending.

Mike Huckabee:

Mike Huckabee is strongly against abortion and he also opposes embryonic stem cell funding.  Huckabee wants to conserve and use alternative energy sources like nuclear, wind, solar, hydrogen, clean coal, bio-diesel, and biomass. He also  favors allowing illegal immigrants to apply for a legal status by going through a process involving a fine, learning english, getting guest worker permits, and paying taxes. On the subject of Iraq, Mike Huckabee is for it and even thinks that going to war with few troops was a mistake. Huckabee supported Bush's tax cuts and if he were elected, make them permanent. Huckabee wants to make the Department of Homeland Security more efficient and effective and also wants to augment chemical plan and port security standards  at the federal level, but leave states the right to make and enforce stricter standards. Huckabee feels that the arts and music education should be apart of a students everyday curriculum. He supports home schooling, charter schools, and school choice programs. Mike Huckabee would like to entirely overhaul the health care system but is against universal federal health care. He  wants to help people in making health care an easier process according to there needs.

Mitt Romney:

Mitt Romney believes that abortion should be left to the states because "a single federal rule" is not right. Romney proposes using a combination of conservation and efficiency measures to make U.S. energy independent. He supports the developement of alternative energy sources. Romney was against the McCain-Kennedy immigration bill of 2006 and says that there should be harsher penalties for employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants. He also is for building a fence on the U.S.-Mexican border. Romney thinks that errors have been made in the Iraq process but overall is completely for it. Romney believes that Bush's tax cuts should be made permanent and thinks that even more should be offered. He signed the 2008 presidential candidate "Taxpayer Protection Pledge". Romney wants to enable clearer communication and more defensive action. He also wants to increase the size of the U.S. army by 100,000 troops. Romney is in favor of charter schools and school choice programs and would also like to put an increase on math and science education. Romney would like to make all health care expenses tax deductible and move some funds from emergency rooms treating uninsured people to programs that help uninsured patient buy private insurance.
